For the first time in 55 years, Ford is expanding the Mustang family, bringing the famous pony into the electric age with Mustang Mach-E, an all-new, all-electric SUV born of the same free-spirited ideals that inspired the best-selling sports coupe in the world.

All-new, purpose-built, all-electric model symbolises the beginning of a new electrified era for Ford; is one of 14 electrified Ford vehicles that came to Europe at the end of 2020. The Battery

Mustang Mach-E will be available in both Select (75.7 kWh lithium-ion battery) and Premium RWD & AWD (98.8 kWh battery), with the Select (70kWh) being capable of up to 202-273 miles while the Premium RWD offers up to 293-372 (WLTP test results)** mile range.

These advanced batteries feature 288 lithium-ion cells for the Select specification and 376 lithium-ion cells for the Premium specifications. Designed to help maximise interior space and contribute to optimised driving dynamics with a low centre of gravity, the battery is located on the floor between the vehicle’s two axles – and tested at temperatures as extreme as minus 40 degrees Celsius. The batteries are secured inside a waterproof battery case surrounded by crash absorption protection. The battery uses an advanced active liquid heating and cooling system to regulate temperatures for optimised performance in extreme weather and to improve charging times.

Power Up At Home

The Ford Connected Wallbox is an optional home charging point and your smartest home charging option. It can recharge over 20 miles of range every hour, and will complete a full charge overnight. We can help to arrange the installation of a Ford Connected Wallbox through our specialist installer Centrica.

The supplied Ford Universal Charge Cable can also be plugged into a high-power socket, for up to 20 mi of range every hour. You can also use a normal home socket. Charging is slower, about 8 miles of range per hour, but useful for when you’re away visiting friends without any charging facility.

Equipped for both AC and DC charging, Mustang Mach-E will come with 5 year’s complimentary access to the FordPass Charging network with more than 150,000 available charge points across Europe. Ford is also a founding partner of the IONITY high-speed charging network, with 400 charging stations and 2400 charging points scheduled to be opened on major motorways across Europe by the end of 2020.

What affects range?

There are three main factors that can affect the driving range of the Mustang Mach-E:

Heavy acceleration and high speeds

• In any type of vehicle, accelerating fast will use more power and reduce range. This applies to Internal Combustion Engines (ICE) and Electric Vehicles (EV).
• Likewise, faster speeds create exponentially more wind and road resistance, impacting on range.

Climate and temperature

• Extreme heat or cold temperatures outside have the potential to affect battery range, directly. All electric vehicles (EV’s) have less energy when in cold temperatures compared to warm temperatures due to battery cell chemistry.
• Heating and cooling the inside of the vehicle for passenger comfort also has an impact.

Regenerative braking

• Regenerative braking can capture and reuse more than 90% of the braking energy improving the efficiency of the battery and extending the battery range.

How to improve range

These tips will help keep you comfortable and relaxed about the range of your Electric Vehicle:

• Pre-condition the vehicle. Set the departure time to warm the cabin and the battery while the vehicle is still plugged in. Use the FordPass App or the Mustang Mach-E’s touchscreen.
• If possible, always keep the Electric Vehicle plugged in whenever it is parked. In cold weather, even trickle charging will help the vehicle to keep the temperature of its battery optimised.
• Avoid using high-power, fast charging (DC) after short driving distances. The battery needs time to heat up, under normal driving conditions, to be able to accept high charge power. Not giving your battery time to condition will impact charging performance.
• Ensure tyres are at the correct pressure. Under inflated tyres can affect the rolling road resistance and therefore increase drag, impacting on energy consumption. The wrong pressure will also affect the tyres’ grip on snowy and icy roads. Winter tyres are recommended where necessary.
• Set the climate control to create a comfortable but moderate ambient temperature. It is more efficient to maintain a consistent temperature than it is to keep turning climate control on and off, heating up the cabin before letting it cool down again.
• Rather than use heating and ventilation to warm up the whole cabin, use the heated seats and steering wheel as primary local heat sources for the passengers. These consume far less energy.
