But it’s a car you can buy with your sensible hat on, too, thanks to its low CO2 emissions, excellent real-world fuel economy, a clever boot and attractive monthly PCP costs."

WHATCAR?

"Our customers told us they want a compact vehicle with stand-out looks that also delivers solutions for everyday living. The result is our new Ford Puma – charismatic, practical and offering technologies from massage seats to mild-hybrid powertrains.”

Stuart Rowley, president, Ford of Europe.

The Next Step In Engines

The New Ford Puma provides impressive fuel economy and noticeably lower CO2 emissions figures, the new cleaner hybrid electric vehicle, is a combination of Fords world famous EcoBoost petrol engine and a 48-volt lithium ion battery powered electric motor. This electrification means that the mild hybrid engine captures energy usually lost under braking, adding 37lb ft of pulling power, making pulling of, overtaking and pulling away easier, all while improving fuel economy by 9%. As the engine is a mild-hybrid, this means that it doesn't drive in pure electric but makes the most of previously lost energy.

The New Ford Puma will be available with a choice of two engines;

1.0L Ford EcoBoost 125PS - Available on the Titanium & ST-Line

1.0L Ford EcoBoost Hybrid (mHEV) with 125PS & 155PS - Available on the Titanium , ST-Line, ST-Line X

A clever use of space

Ford understand that life is ever changing, if that be a growing family, new and existing hobbies or new jobs and all of these come with a massive demand for convenience. Because of this, Ford have come up with an inventive new design feature, the Megabox and the new Ford Puma delivers best-in-class 456-litre uncompromised rear load space and innovative stowage solutions designed to offer practical solutions to everyday storage problems.

The Megabox is 68L (when combined with the mHEV) of previously unused space, located underneath the boot floor, which with its synthetic lining and drain plug in the bottom, makes it easy to clean with water. It was developed to meet and exceed customer requirements for practical luggage space, providing a deep, versatile storage space that is capable of comfortably accommodating two golf bags in an upright position and much much more.

FAQs

What is a Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV)?

A Mild Hybrid Vehicle, a vehicle that is powered by both a normal combustion engine and a small electrical motor that helps improve efficiency. The electric motor is merely there to assist the combustion engine, not power the entire vehicle and therefore cannot drive on electric energy alone. The MHEV electric motors can be recharged in one of two ways: through regenerative braking or through the conventional engine.

Do you need to charge a MHEV?

You do not need to charge a MHEV, the 48V Li-ion battery is automatically recharged by regenerative braking during coasting and braking. There is no requirement to connect the battery to a power source.

What is the difference between a MHEV and a Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV)?

As with MHEV, HEV have an internal combustion engine, but they also have a larger battery and more powerful motor. This provides more assistance to the engine and enables the vehicle to drive parts of short journeys at low speeds using the electric motor alone. Thanks to the conventional engine, this can help improve driving range. This is because the vehicle is capable of using both battery and the internal combustion engine.

Is the Puma available as a Plug-In Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) or All Electric Vehicle (BEV)?

The New Ford Puma is currently only available in a MHEV, if you would like more information on Ford's future electric vehicle, please send us your question
