DRIVER ASSISTANCE AND SEMI-AUTONOMOUS DRIVING TECHNOLOGY

Ford BlueCruise introduces a new level of technology to customers which allows customers to take their hands off the wheel and feet off the pedals, BlueCruise will only operate on designated motorways.

It will work on Ford’s existing Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control (IACC), Stop-and-Go, Lane Centering, and Speed Sign Recognition technology.

The BlueCruise technology will use data from a driver-facing camera which tracks eye gaze and head position which determines whether the driver is paying attention to the surrounding road and traffic and radar units, combined with information from the navigation system's GPS and 'Blue Zone Map' database. Which then allows it to recognise when the vehicle is entering or is travelling on an approved Blue Zone road.

“Ford has really pushed the boundaries of advanced driver assistance technology with BlueCruise. We wanted to create a hands-free driving system that can constantly monitor lane degradation, weather and even construction. That's an ambitious goal, but that's exactly what Ford has delivered.”
