The Kuga redefines what's possible, specially created to combine elegant styling with tough capability, all driven by a choice of efficient Petrol and Diesel engines. The Ford Kuga is your new best friend, with a spacious boot and a selection of powertrains that can handle urban, suburban and rural environments without compromise.
In designing the Ford Kuga we've gone back to basics and asked our customers what they wanted from the Kuga.
''Kuga customers expressed that they were ready for even more emotional design, and our Kuga is a sculpture skilfully articulated. Visually sleeker, lower and wider – it makes you feel excited just by looking at it,” said Amko Leenarts, director, Design, Ford of Europe. “The all-new interior is a sanctuary space, designed to allow everyday life to happen. Harmonious and airy, it fuses premium materials, precise craftsmanship and state-of-the-art technology''
With class leading interior space the Kuga is designed to be ready for anything you can throw at it. Fords new flexible rear seating system slides forward or backward to suit your needs giving you the ultimate freedom. Whether you need more room in the back or you're heading out on a new adventure and need more boot space, the rear seats will slide forward and backward to best suit your needs giving allowing the Kuga to adapt to every type of journey as you need it.
The big news story with the Kuga is the unprecedented choice offered to customers for the first time in a Ford. Wherever the destination, the Kuga Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) uses both an efficient 2.5L Duratec Petrol engine and a an advanced Zero emissions electric powertrain to get you where you need to go. This Plug-in Hybrid definitely is a no compromise option, delivering best of both worlds.
Further to PHEV, Ford have designed this vehicle with both a petrol and diesel hybrid option meaning that there's no need to plug in your vehicle. Often referred to as self charging hybrids these systems use regenerative braking and the engine to charge the battery allowing for even better economy and lower emissions than with conventional combustion engines.
Not ready to join us on our hybrid journey? Ford offer a fuel-efficient EcoBlue diesel engine and the 1.5-litre Petrol EcoBoost.
The choice is yours.
The Kuga has now joined the growing family of Ford vehicles that are available with an inbuilt FordPass Connect* modem bringing you a growing range of new features that can elevate your ownership experience to the next level. Times are changing and you're right to expect more from your vehicle. Your Kuga and your compatible smart phone can now work in harmony. You can lock and unlock your doors, start the engine on a cold morning to prewarm the vehicle. Equipped with 4G LTE your Kuga is a Wi-Fi †† hotspot allowing you to connect up to 10 devices at a time.
For more information about the growing number of FordPass Connect features or to download the app visit our FordPass Connect Page here:
[*]The on-board modem will be connected at the time of vehicle delivery. You may choose to opt in/opt out of certain data sharing. The technology will be made available in selected markets in 2019, with the remaining markets following through 2020. FordPass Connect feature usage is complimentary for the first 2 years thereafter a subscription is payable.
[††]Wi-Fi Hotspot (up to 4G) includes complimentary wireless data trial that begins at time of activation and expires at the end of 3 months or when 3GB of data is used, whichever comes first. Afterwards a subscription to Vodafone is required, refer to their website for detail of their data packages. To take advantage of the built-in Wi-Fi hotspot capability, a 2018 Ford vehicle must come with the appropriate hardware, and a data plan is required. Data coverage and service is not available everywhere and terms of your data plan, including applicable message and data rates, may apply.
A Plug-in Hybrid (PHEV) is the best of both worlds, these vehicles have a higher voltage battery, allowing you to drive longer distances on all electric compared to a Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) and a normal combustion engine. The PHEV has two charging options;
1.Charged from an external electricity supply, an added bonus from the traditional hybrid.
2.The use of advanced charging technology, which takes advantage of previously lost energy while braking.
It’s ideal for zero-emission electric driving for 30 miles and the manual switch allows you to conserve battery life for longer journeys.
Derivative | WLTP Extra High (Motorway) | WLTP Overall (Combined) |
ST-Line Edition | 28 miles | 39 miles |
ST-Line X Edition | 28 miles | 37 miles |
Vignale | 28 miles | 37 miles |
As with Mild Hybrid (mHEV), these vehicles have an internal combustion engine, but they also have a larger battery and more powerful motor. This provides more assistance to the engine and enables the vehicle to drive parts of short journeys at low speeds using the electric motor alone. Along with providing improved MPG and Co2 emissions.
The internal combustion engine is assisted by an electric motor. At low speed, or when stationary, the engine can switch itself off and the 48V starter-generator seamlessly restarts when needed. The separate 48V Li-ion battery is automatically recharged by regenerative braking during coasting and braking. There is no requirement to connect the battery to a power source.
The Kuga has four EV drive modes, giving the drive complete control over the electric driving experience;
The default EV mode. Enables the vehicle to drive electrically for as long as possible. Automatically switches between electric and combustion engine driving, prioritising the use of the electric motor as much as possible, only using the combustion engine when required.
When sufficient charge is available, only the electric motor is used. Automatically uses the combustion engine when needed, ensuring the driver can complete their journey.
Use the combustion engine to save power in the battery for later use. Can be used when the driver knows that their journey will include entering a low/zero emission area, to save their electric-only driving range until needed.
Uses the engine to charge the battery up to 80 percent during driving once the vehicle range has been depleted. This provides additional electric range that can be used later in the journey.
